Abstract

The optical properties of the Si/SiO2 superlattice were investigated on the basis of the optical absorption coefficient. We found that the optical bandgap can be tuned from 1.2 to 2.1 eV by adjusting the annealing temperature and Si layer thickness. Careful structural analyses revealed that the change in optical bandgap is due to the quantum confinement effect.
