Microsoft rolled out several updates in January 2018 that cause a problem to the operation of both Spectra Manager™ and ChromNAV software platforms.
The updates affected are in versions of Windows 8.1 & Windows 10.
PROBLEM
After applying the Windows Updates for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 released at the beginning of January, some JASCO application software, including the measurement & analysis programs in both Spectra Manager™ and ChromNAV software, may fail to launch correctly.
The reason for this problem is that the latest Windows Updates causes a failure in the ColnitializeSecurity function in Windows operating systems.
More Information can be found here:
Although Microsoft has already identified the problem and is trying to resolve it, the target date for a new update to fix this problem remains unknown. Currently, the only way to avoid this problem is to not install the Update Data.
If the Windows Update has been installed already, please uninstall the following update data:
<For Windows 8.1>
KB4056895
KB4056898
<For Windows 10>
KB4056892
KB4056891
KB4056890
KB4056888
KB4056893
DISABLE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE FUNCTION
Meanwhile, please be advised that the automatic update should be completely disabled. Otherwise, the updates will be re-installed automatically, even after they have been uninstalled. (If Spectra Manager™ or ChromNAV has been installed into Windows 10 using the batch script included on the installation CD-ROM, the automatic update function should be already disabled. But you should check to see if your IT provider has changed this function.)
