Abstract

A covalent organic helical cage with D3 symmetry bearing two trimethylphenyl and six diethynylallene moieties was synthesized. This cage favors inclusion-complex formation with sandwich organometallic compounds due to the presence of methyl groups on the aryl ring. The strong chiroptical responses of these covalent organic helical cages along with their ability to entrap guest molecules enabled the detection of a ruthenium sandwich compound by circular dichroism.
