Abstract

Danshen Injection (lyophilized powder) is an important clinical preparation with therapeutic effects for cardiovascular diseases in China. Phenolics are considered to be the active ingredients. To investigate the chemical constituents of the injection and assay their antioxidant activities, several column chromatographies were applied to purify and isolate the main chemical constituents of the injection. As a result, two novel phenolic compounds, salvialdehyde acid (1) and glycerol monosalvialdehyde acid ester (2), were isolated. Free radical scavenging activity screening by DPPH· and ABTS·+ methods in vitro indicated compound 1possessed moderate antioxidant activity.
